I am Griffin Pettyes, and I have been making art ever since I was a child. My art expands across multiple styles and approaches, but mostly resides in the realm of filmmaking and writing. My art ranges from sentimental reflection on the plights of growing up, childhood trauma, and personal nostalgia, to narrative explorations in multiple tones – with a prime focus on the horror/thriller genre. I enjoy exploring the darker aspects of my mind when creating art; I tend to favor the creativity that comes from those sides of me. I draw inspiration from multiple directors throughout horror’s evolution. I work to evoke meaning out of horror concepts, in hopes to produce more respect and seriousness around the genre itself – while also emphasizing the value and fun within horror’s traditional tropes.

Along with my love for narrative filmmaking/writing, I also use art as a mechanism for expressing repressed thoughts and feelings – whether it's reflecting on the past, learning to come into myself, or simply the struggle of everyday life – creating art, specifically films, has allowed me to explore and analyze my own mind, and help me understand how I view the world. Creating my art has been such an empowering journey so far, and whether I am veering certain projects toward audience appeal or personal enjoyment, I always strive to vivify, inspire, and captivate viewers – and encourage others to see the playful, free-spirited, and inventive qualities of filmmaking.
